After being the last side to reach the World Cup finals, Uruguay’s hopes of being the last to leave the World Cup finals were dashed as it will now find itself locked in a fierce encounter with Germany, who after concluding a dominating run right through the quarterfinals, must now settle for a third place best finish.

The two sides have met eight times, with Germany wining six and drawing two, including a match for third place in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, where the Germans came away with a 1-0 victory on Wolfgang Overath’s 26th minute goal.
